How TV is Making Children Less Creative

Many of us already feel guilty about how much TV we used to allow/or still allow our children to watch. This is a very powerful article that may cause you to unplug your TV and throw it out the window.

David Perlmutter, M.D., a neurologist makes some interesting statements about how TV affects our children’s brains and yes, after reading this article I feel guilty.

If you are a parent or a caretaker of young children, this article is a must-read. The statistics alone are staggering.

In regard to stifling creativity Dr. Perlmutter states this:

“Fantasy and creativity are critically important for appropriate brain development. The ability of a child to fantasize, to create alternative scenarios and to explore “other realities “ultimately creates a brain that can think outside the box, paving the way for the ability to achieve novel solutions to problems and creative ways of responding to academic challenges later in life….None of this activity takes place if a child is engrossed in television where fantasies are spoon-fed and provide no opportunity for alternative explanations.”
